Most winter hiring at Whistler is done at the end of September and early October. Summer hiring starts in February/March for outdoor work and in late April and early May for indoor work, such as hotels and restaurants. Visit Whistler Employment Resource Centre's website at www.whistlerchamber.com for helpful information and listings of current openings. The Whistler Chamber of Commerce also has an online Business Directory that may be helpful for job searching. Also note that any American citizen wishing to work in Canada must obtain a work visa or written consent from his or her prospective employer. Another option is to check out student exchange programs through local universities or colleges, or the school's student travel center. !

The beauty about Whistler is that its not just a place to live and work in during winter. Summer time is pretty bloody fantastic. You can go paintballing, hiking, fishing, sailing, horseback riding, rafting, bungy jumping and so much more. Jobs are galore in the summer time and you can try something that you have never done before.

1. How can you prepare?
Think about the kind of job you would enjoy. What type of hours and work environment would suit you best? Create or review your resumé/CV. Add a cover letter whenever possible. Secure any certification that will help you find a job. Inform yourself on pay ranges. Most jobs pay more with relevant experience. Be realistic. 2. How can you find employment? Go to the Whistler Chamber of Commerce online job board where you can search for full time, part time and temporary jobs. Review local newspapers Contact employment agencies Sign up for job alerts Attend job fairs
Participate in employment counseling (for Canadian citizens and permanent residents only)
Check out the Career or Employment section on the websites of potential employers. Get out there! Make sure you look presentable. Ask around, drop resumes at places where you would like to work even if they are not hiring at the moment. Try to speak to a supervisor or manager when dropping off resumes. This helps them put a face to the resume/CV.

3. How can you find accommodation? Ask your employer because some employers provide staff accommodation. Check out rental properties on the website of the Whistler Housing Authority Post a profile on the website of the Whistler Housing Authority. Look through the classifieds in both local newspapers or online. Review www.whistler.en.craigslist.ca. It is an excellent up to date source for shared accommodation and local rental listings. It is also worth posting a “Wanted” ad here.
